Morrison moves Marist on

Updated: May 27, 2011 9:46PM

In outside hitter Kevin Morrison, Marist setter Garrett Dempsey had the hottest player on the court, and he was going to keep giving him the ball.

Morrison’s 15 kills powered the comeback for Marist in a 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 victory over Lincoln-Way East.

‘‘Kevin kept putting the ball away, and I was going to keep feeding him,’’ Dempsey said. We’ve just started really slow, and come Tuesday we cant do that. If we put ourselves in a hole, it will be really hard to come back.’’

Dempsey dished out 34 assists for Marist (33-5) with Dan Garvey and Sean Connelly adding seven kills each.

After coming out flat in the opener, the RedHawks took game two, and then blew away the Griffins in the clincher. Pulling away from East in the third, Morrison scored four of five points for Marist.

Ryan Dexter (22 assists), Greg Magrum (10 kills), and Jason Garnett (seven kills) led Lincoln-Way East (30-8) in the semifinal.

‘‘Marist has all that experience, and if you want to jump on them like we did early, you have to keep the pedal to the metal,’’ East coach Kris Fiore said. ‘‘They don’t give up, and we did that in the first game. The second game, our serve-receive just broke down a little bit.’’
