Considering its previous meeting with Lincoln-Way Central resulted in a 33-26 win, the 20-point second quarter Lockport was able to put together Friday night certainly qualified as an offensive explosion.

The host Porters rode their hot outside shooting to a 29-21 halftime lead and went on to a 60-51 SouthWest Suburban Blue win.

“Sixty points is a lot for us,” Lockport coach Lawrence Thompson Jr. said. “We got going in transition, we made some threes and we did a really good job sharing the ball. I’m proud of our kids for bouncing back after a tough shooting night Tuesday against Bolingbrook.”

Up 9-7 after one quarter, No. 4 Lockport (14-9, 5-6) opened the second by hitting its first five shots from the field, including four treys, to open a 23-15 edge. Kyle Ward (14 points, 6 rebounds) scored eight points in the quarter, with Courtney Cole (14 points) adding six.

“We wanted to come out and push the ball,” Ward said. “The threes were falling for us tonight, so we kept shooting. Our trap really started working in the second quarter and we got steals and easy shots.”

Central (9-15, 2-9) trailed by as many as 18 points late in the third quarter, but fought back to within eight midway through the fourth.

Cole and John Campbell (6 points, 6 rebounds) combined to hit six free throws to seal the win.

Johnny Finnin poured in 22 points to lead the Knights. Central star Brad Foster battled foul trouble and was held to two first-half points before finishing with 10 and 10 rebounds. Kevin Mampe added 10 points and nine rebounds.

“Lockport really shot well,” Central coach Bob Curran said. “Ward had a heck of a shooting night, and we can’t win when teams shoot like that against us. You’ve got to give Lockport credit.”
