Simeon's first quarter propels win

Updated: March 22, 2011 5:24PM

Simeon did its best work at the start.

The No. 4 Wolverines smashed Lincoln Park with six touchdowns in the first quarter as Simeon overwhelmed the Lions 55-6 Saturday afternoon at Lane Stadium.

The Wolverines' front-line players did not play beyond the first quarter. Even in his limited time on the field, standout junior quarterback Robert Gregory ran for a 50-yard touchdown and threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Horactio Banks to fuel the rout.

"We played well the first quarter and that's what I wanted, that‘s the way to do it," Simeon coach Dante Culbreath said. Darius Scott added a 40-yard touchdown run for the Wolverines (7-0, 4-0 Red Bird).

"We were able to play everybody, and that's what we were looking for," he said.

Reserve fullback Charles Walker scored on a three-yard touchdown burst. Defensive back Shaquille Joyner scored on 40-yard interception return against the Lions (1-6, 0-4).
