Emanuel Williams had no time to think, just react.
“I saw the opening and I just reached over and extended my arm,” Williams said of his two-point conversion that proved the dramatic conclusion of Leo’s 22-20 overtime victory over Guerin at Gately Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Williams (10 carries, 108 yards) ran for a 10-yard touchdown on his team’s first play of the extra session to forge the game’s final tie.
“[Offensive tackle] Leon Hill created a great opening and I just moved inside and got to the end zone,” Williams said.
Leo (3-2, 2-0 Catholic Green) overcame a near disastrous lost fumble deep in their territory moments earlier. Guerin (2-3, 1-1) missed a field goal on the last play of regulation.
Williams’ 68-yard fourth quarter touchdown run gave the Lions a 14-6 lead with 8:37 remaining. Guerin junior quarterback Dennis Kelly’s 13-yard scramble, combined with Gerald Killingsworth’s two-point conversion, knotted the game at 14 -14 with 4:22 to play.
In Guerin's overtime possession Kelly threw a nine-yard touchdown strike to Andre Molina for a 20-14 advantage. Leo’s defense smothered their two-point run attempt.
Killingsworth ran for 122 yards on 30 carries. Leo senior quarterback Darwin Rogers produced 114 yards total offense, including a six-yard scoring pass to Jeremy Herron in the second quarter.
