Two Morgan Park offensive plays from scrimmage, two touchdowns.

That’s not the start to the playoffs Lemont envisioned Friday. But after falling behind 12-3 — the Mustangs scoring on an 84-yard pass from Andre Newell to Javon Bright on a flea flicker and a 65-yard Newell run — the host Indians scored the next 47 points.

Top-seeded Lemont went on to a 56-30 win in a Class 6A first-round game.

“They came out and took it to us,” Lemont running back Mike Anzalone said. “We picked up the pieces and started playing Lemont football.”

The rally for the Indians (10-0) was aided by turnovers on four consecutive possessions by Morgan Park (4-6).

Anzalone (32 carries, 165 yards) scored on two 4-yard runs and one from eight yards out, while Damon Aleman (7 of 11, 122 yards) threw TD passes of 12 yards to Chris Giatras and 22 yards to Tyler Jay to help Lemont to a 41-12 halftime lead.

Giatras added second-half touchdowns on a three-yard run and 28-yard pass from Aleman.

Morgan Park scored on fumble recovery returns from Dakota Reid and Monty Owens and a 17-yard pass from Newell to Bright.

The Mustangs had 149 yards of offense on their first two plays and six yards the rest of the way.
