Lemont finishes perfect regular season

Updated: March 22, 2011 5:18PM

Lemont was hitting on all notes in its final tune-up before next week's playoffs.

It took just nine carries for Lemont running backs Jack Forrest and Mike Anzalone to combine for 175 yards and four touchdowns to help the Indians (9-0, 5-0) clobber host Hillcrest 49-14 Friday in a South Suburban Blue showdown.

The Hillcrest scoreboard operator was busy in the first half. While the No. 16 Indians main source of points was the run (four rushing touchdowns), it wasn't the only resource Lemont tapped. Mike Hayes returned an interception to put the Indians up 14-0 early in the first quarter. Lemont also returned a fumble for a touchdown and Lee Taylor had a 69-yard punt return touchdown.

"The kids came out and really played well," said coach Eric Michaelsen. "[Hillcrest] had beaten us last year and that stuck with the kids a little bit."

The only miscue on the night was a second-quarter fumble by quarterback Mike Hall that Hillcrest's Armand Brown returned for a touchdown.

Lemont led 49-6 at the half and with a running clock to run the entire second half; an undefeated regular season for the Indians was in the books. It was the third undefeated regular season in school history.

"We were playing for an undefeated season and a high seed and that feels awesome," Michaelsen said. "I'm real proud of our kids."
