Lemont's season came to an end Tuesday as the Indians fell to Notre Dame 4-0 at the Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Supersectional. The scene was all too familiar as this marks the second straight season the Indians have fallen to the Irish in the supersectional game.

"We knew coming in how good they were and they were everything as advertised," Lemont coach Rick Prangen said. "They were certainly the best team we've seen this year."

Lemont (15-8-3) executed the team's game plan coming in, which was to keep it a 0-0 game for the first 20 minutes and look for a Notre Dame mistake, but the Indians were unable to capitalize. Ten minutes into the game Indians defender Mick Tiedt fired a free kick from 47 yards out that Kyle Koehler headed just over the crossbar. It would be the only shot of the first half for the Indians.

"We had a great chance in that first 20 to go up 1-0, but we weren't able to capitalize," Prangen said. "Against a team like that you can't let chances like that slip away."

Lemont goalkeeper Jonathan Remiasz was able to keep the game in check as Notre Dame fired 11 shots at him in the first half, seven of which he had to save. The one that slipped passed came off of Koehler, as the Irish's Alex Garcia used the Indians fullback as a backboard to get the ball in the net to give the Irish a 1-0 lead.

"In the first half we stuck with them really well," Remiasz said with tears in his eyes. "There was nothing we could do about their first goal and at the half there was a chance."

Lemont came out flat in the second half as Notre Dame's Johnny Frampton hit the back of the net from 26 yards out before three minutes had gone by. Less than three minutes later, Frampton found the back of the net again thanks to a centered ball by Cody Gilfillan. Brett Lane would add the finally tally for the Irish. The Irish had 23 shots on goal to the Indians three for the game.

"The only disappointing thing for me was at half I could sense a certain bit of disbelief," Prangen said. "Our guys stopped believing and thinking they could have a chance and we came out a little flat."

Lemont will lose just three seniors total, two of which are among the team's starters. One of those seniors was between the pipes for the Indians in the form of Remiasz, who finished with 13 saves.

"I'd rather lose to these guys than somewhere along the way," Remiasz said. "I'm glad it happened when we were playing for something.

"It's sunk in, otherwise I wouldn't be crying."

Notre Dame (24-1) will play in the final four at North Central College Friday at 1 p.m.
