Boehm leads Caravan past Lemont

Providence - the preseason No. 1 - and St. Rita - the reigning Class 4A state runner-up - have garnered considerable attention early in the season.
Mount Carmel, off to a 4-0 start, has shown it's deserving of some attention as well.
The No. 9 Caravan, behind the pitching of Jeff Boehm and overall strong performance of Sam Kint, took down No. 8 Lemont 7-3 on Tuesday in Chicago.
Boehm (2-0), a Kentucky recruit, allowed just two hits and struck out eight in an overpowering five innings. The left-hander's pet peeve - walks - reared its ugly head at times, as he allowed six free passes during a 90-pitch performance.
"I think Jeff did a good job," Mount Carmel coach Brian Hurry said. "He gave up some walks, but he gathered himself and worked through it. We're going to give him the ball every five or six days, and he's only going to get better."
It's downright scary to think how much better Kint can develop. The 6-foot-5 right-handed hitter was 2-for-4, including a solo homer. He also made a pair of sparkling plays at first base.
"Kint played an outstanding game," Hurry said. "He did it with the bat and the glove, too."
Chris Sujka added a 3-for-4 performance for the Caravan, which erupted for a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
Lemont's defense didn't do starter Jeremy Santiago (3 IP, 4 hits, strikeout) any favors, committing two errors in the first.
The Caravan opened up a 5-0 lead after four innings. The big blow came off the bat of Kint, who launched a 1-and-2 fastball from Santiago over the right-center field fence in the third. Jerry Houston contributed an RBI single in the fourth against reliever Tyler Jay.
Kevin Goergen drove in all three runs for Lemont (1-2), with an RBI single in the fifth and two-run single in the seventh. Dan Lombardo (1-for-2) reached base three times for the Indians.
"We've got to do a better job hitting early in the count," Lemont coach Joe Rodeghero said. "Their kid (Boehm) threw the ball well, but we've got to attack the fastball."
