Defending state champion New Trier will be heading back Downstate after they dominated play with a 5-0 win over Lane Tech in the Loyola Supersectional.
The Trevians (21-2-1) controlled the ball using a quick short passing attack. Evan Bartzis scored on a header off a corner kick, Ryan Keefe scored on a restart and Ryan Foreman put home a ball off a header from Keefe to give New Trier a 3-0 lead at the half.
With 15 minutes left in the second half, Bartzis got a through pass from Matt Weaver and one-touched a beautiful shot inside the left post. Matt Strauss scored on a similar play five minutes later.
"This win gives us a lot of momentum going into Friday," Bartzis said. "Everyone played well. We moved the ball and finished when we had opportunities."
Goalie Jordan Maman recorded his 17th shutout.
