Lynn’s touchdown lifts Lake Zurich

Defense ruled the day for most of Friday’s showdown between Lake Forest and Lake Zurich.
But Bears tight end Jack Lynn changed the course of the contest with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter by hauling in a 49-yard touchdown pass from Zach Till. The big play allowed No. 22 Lake Zurich to secure a 16-6 victory.
“I could not have done anything without the offensive line,” Lynn said. “They gave Zach great protection, and Zach made the perfect throw.”
Lynn shook off a tackle and stumbled before dashing into the end zone.
Lake Zurich (6-2, 4-1) put the clamps on the Scout offense. Star running back Owen Williams collected only 49 yards on 18 carries, and quarterback Andrew Clifford completed 12-of-23 passes for 106 yards.
Clifford was under attack all night, especially from LZ defensive linemen Will Hussey and Rocky Triggiano.
“Hussey is a curveball,” Lynn said. “You look at him on film and he doesn’t look that fast. But he’s very fast in person. And Rocky is brute force.”
Both Hussey and Triggiano recorded sacks. Lynn added a sack in the final two minutes of the game.
Lake Forest (6-2, 4-1) managed just two field goals by Baylor Broughton (27 and 26 yards).
The Bears took the lead for good on a 40-yard run by Till. The big run, which saw Till cut back to avoid two tacklers, gave LZ a 9-6 lead early in the second quarter.
Bear halfback Mike Shield led all rushers with 113 yards on 26 carries.
