Lake Zurich tops Cary-Grove

Lake Zurich 10, Cary-Grove 3: Lake Zurich's Jake Brinlee displayed why he's so dangerous every

time he touches the ball on Friday night.

The senior running back cutback and broke free on a 65-yard touchdown run

with 56.2 remaining as the Bears rallied late to upend host Cary-Grove 10-3

at a wind-whipped Al Bohrer Field.

Brinlee, who had fumbled twice earlier in the game, ran for 132 of his

game-high 164 yards on 17 carries in the second half.

Lake Zurich (2-0) managed to draw even earlier in the fourth on a 25-yard

field goal by Mike Leiva with 5:48 left to play.

The defending Class 6A state champion Trojans (0-2) had led 3-0 throughout

the contest after a 40-yard field goal by Nick Taylor in the first quarter.

Patrick O'Malley paced the Cary-Grove attack with 93 yards on 27 carries.
