LAKE STATION -- When George Ezell and Darcell Ballentine put their minds to it, they can surely put on a show.

The duo combined for seven touchdowns Friday night as Calumet dominated Lake Station 64-24 in Greater South Shore conference football action.

Calumet was led by the spectacular running of Ezell and Ballentine, along with others, to dominate the game from start to finish.

"We had a very good week of practice considering the weather we had," said Calumet coach Ivan Zimmer. "We improved on some things we wanted to but we just are quite where we want to be yet. I am extremely proud of all the kids especially the offensive line and the way they performed."

Calumet (4-1, 3-0 GSSC) exploded for 30 first-quarter points thanks in part to Ezell, Ballentine and Erick Opperman.

Lake Station (0-5 , 0-3) struggled to get any offense going against the quicker Calumet team. Penalties hampered the Eagles and they were held to negative yardage in the first quarter.

The second quarter was much like the first, with Calumet dominating throughout. Ezell contributed another touchdown to go along with one from quarterback Nate Fowler to cap the scoring at 42-0.

Lake Station came out in the third quarter trying to turn things around by forcing a Calumet fumble on their first possession of the quarter.

The Eagles struggled to get their offense going until Matt Austin broke loose for a 54-yard scamper into the end zone to finally put Lake Station on the board. A successful two-point conversion made it 48-8.

Calumet answered back quickly, as Fowler found a streaking Ballentine down the sideline for a 75-yard touchdown pass to put the Warriors up 56-8.

Lake Station came right back thanks to Austin's 52-yard touchdown run for the Eagles' second score of the game.

As the fourth quarter was winding down, Austin once again found an opening and ran in for his third touchdown of the night. But Calumet wasn't done -- on the kickoff, Ballentine took the ball at his 35-yard line and ran it in to end the scoring 64-24.

"We played a great game, give credit to our offensive line for the holes they opened up for us, we are happy with the victory," Ballentine said.
