Vernon Hills continues to roll

It's now three straight shutouts for the Vernon Hills defense.

On Friday night, the running clock ignited early in the third quarter in

Lake Villa. Vernon Hills' star DaVaris Daniels scored three touchdowns and threw for

one more as the Cougars rolled 47-0 over previously-unbeaten Lakes.

"We are working hard and having fun,'' said Vernon Hills coach Tony Monken

"And our defense is getting the ball for us."

It was night in which Monken employed four quarterbacks. The first one,

Daniels, broke his first run of the contest for 38 yards. His first

completed pass was good for the game's first score, a 40-yard bomb to Evan

Spencer.

The Ohio State bound senior would carry only once and that paid off

on a 53-yard TD run making it 12-0.

"We just came out with so much intensity,'' Spencer said.

Daniels (13 carries, 175 yards) scored on runs of 15, 20 and two yards.

If the loss wasn't painful enough for Lakes, leading running back James Zell

did not play in the second half after sustaining a knee injury.
