Junior point guard Jordan Johnson scored six of his game-high 23 points in overtime as host Waukegan (1-1) slipped past Lake Forest Academy 51-47 on Day 2 of the Bulldogs’ four-team, round-robin tournament.

The Caxys (0-2) forced the extra session when Kori Babineaux (from California) hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie it at 42-42.

In the extra session, Johnson’s jumper started the scoring and Waukegan built a 49-44 lead with 19 seconds left.

Faith Ekakitie (from Toronto) hit a 3-pointer with nine seconds left to make it 49-47, but Johnson hit two free throws with 6.3 seconds left to seal the deal.

“We had some great moments tonight. We had some things cooking for us,” said Waukegan coach Ron Ashlaw.

“This is an interesting tournament to prepare for. You have totally different approaches and styles and athletes. I think its’ a great thing.

Akeem Springs added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

For LFA, Babineaux scored 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and Ekakitie added 17. Ekakitie is a 6-3, 280-pounder who will be playing Division I football next fall.

The Caxys without star Charlie Harris (from Antioch), who had an MRI on his sore need on Friday.
