Boys Basketball: Evan Boudreaux leads Lake Forest past rival Lake Forest Academy

Freshman Evan Boudreaux scored a team-high 19 points and Lake Forest pulled away late to knock off private-school rival Lake Forest Academy 59-52 on Saturday in a non-conference game in front of a standing-room-only crowd.

The Scouts (12-9) trailed 42-40 after a bucket by Kori Babineaux with 6:28 to play.

A basket by Sam Downey with 6:10 left tied it, and the Scouts took the lead for good on two free throws by John Hayes with 5:51 left. From there, the score went to 48-42, 51-43, 51-46, 55-46, 57-46 and finally the five-point margin of victory.

LFA was led in scoring Faith Ekakatie, who is going to Iowa on a football scholarship. He had 25 points.

Babineaux was 7-of-20 from the field and scored 21.

Babineaux and Boudreaux were the oldest and youngest players on the court. Boudreaux is a 6-foot-7 freshman and Babineaux graduated from high school in California last June and is a fifth-year senior.

Lake Forest fans stormed the court to celebrate the bragging-right win, albeit over a team that’s 7-10.

“It was good for the kids to have this type of environment,” said Scouts coach Phil LaScala. “We have a lot of experience on this team playing in close games and we were able to make plays tonight. ”

Creighton Titus added 10 points for the winners.

Lake Forest played without Carter Bass and Thomas Durrett, both out with concussions.

“This was a great atmosphere to play in. We look forward to this game each year,” said LFA coach Matt Vaughn. “This game is great for the community.”
