ST. JOHN -- Thomas Cameron had one thought in mind when he teed it up Friday in the Lake Central Sectional.

Win.

Cameron, a baby-faced freshman, followed though with that thought, shooting a 77 at Palmira Golf Course.

Not only did Cameron take medalist honors, he led the host Indians to the sectional title. Munster, with a 330, finished second just two shots behind Lake Central. Griffith was the third team to advance to next week's regional at LaPorte. The Panthers shot a 360. It's the fourth straight time LC has won sectionals.

"I was focused," Cameron said. "I wanted to post a good score today."

Said Lake Central coach Bill Schneider: "It's a pretty sublime feeling to win four in a row against some good teams like Munster, Bishop Noll and Highland."

Cameron had a steady but unspectacular round.

Aside from a stretch in the last four holes, where he lost two balls with errant tee shots, he made just one birdie to go with six bogeys.

Cameron was a little disappointed with making three bogeys on the last four holes.

Then again, he was happy that he was able to get up and down for bogey on two of those holes after he couldn't find his ball. Cameron's previous best score at Palmira was a 79.

Schneider said that Cameron, who has been playing golf since he was 3, is unmoved by the yo-yo nature of golf.

"Nothing rattles him," Schneider said. "He can have a bad hole and he'll get right back up again."

Munster's Daniel Falloon led the Mustangs with a 79. Falloon was extremely happy with that score. Two weeks ago in the LC Invitational, which was also at Palmira, he shot a 94.

"Golf is a funny game," he said. "It gets you down and then it gets right back up."

Falloon said he was energized by playing with Cameron and Hanover Central's Jake Green.

Green, the No. 2 player for the Wildcats, got his group juiced when he made a hole-in-one on No. 15 from 130 yards. Green punched an 8-iron into the wind for his first-ever ace. His score of 90 wasn't so good.

But he was still pretty happy.

"That made my day," he said.

Said Falloon

Individual qualifiers were Ricky Schwartz of Highland and Aaron Amick and Luke Fornaciari of Bishop Noll.
