King is quietly putting together a very impressive season. After going 3-0 before conference play, the Jaguars opened up Heartland Conference play with a 41-14 victory over Harlan Friday at Gately Stadium.
Both teams scored on their first possession, a 70-yard run by King running back Devonte Rimmer and an 11-yard run by Alfonza Austin of Harlan. From then on it was all King, as Kahari Logan blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone and Cedric Malone scored on a 48-yard run to put King up 23-6 at halftime.
Rimmer opened up the third quarter with a 34-yard run, followed by a 1-yard touchdown run by Logan, as King took a 35-6 lead going into the final quarter. Curtis Hill went 50 yards off tackle with 5:06 remaining in the fourth quarter for Harlan. But freshman running back Lance Robinson closed out the scoring with a 20-yard run for the Jaguars.
“This is not my biggest team, but they work hard and they listen,” said King coach Lonnie Williams. “We have a chance to do something very special. This is a very unselfish group and the coaching staff is really committed.” Rimmer finished the evening with 212 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.
“We just have to keep working,” said Harlan’s Keith Brookshire.
