Timing is everything, especially when you have a chance to put your team in a position to play in the state playoffs.
On his first attempt of the year, sophomore Dominic Kozlowski nailed a 33-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to give Curie a come-from-behind 15-14 victory over King Thursday at Rockne Stadium in the first round Public League playoffs.
“I was really nervous,” Kozlowski said. “The guys were on the sideline telling me to relax. I knew it was good as soon as it left my foot.”
The win makes Curie (5-4) playoff-eligible. Curie erased a nine-point deficit in final three minutes.
Curie quarterback Andy Chmenia threw two 17-yard scoring passes to receiver Sam Altman. The second strike pulled the Condors to within 14-12 with 3:09 left.
King broke up the Condors’ two-point conversion pass. But the Condors forced King (4-5) to punt on the ensuing possession.
A 15-yard touchdown run by Devon Robinson, and an 11-yard burst A.C. Compton put the Jaguars up 14-6 at the break.
