Next stop for Kristin Fritts, a cross country and track standout at Kankakee Valley, is Purdue.
Fritts, a senior for the Kougars, signed a letter of intent with the Boilermakers on Sunday night, according to KV coach Lane Lewallen.
"We're obviously thrilled and extremely proud of her," Lewallen said Wednesday after practice.
She follows hurdler
jumper Lindsey Singleton, a 2003 KV graduate, who competed at Purdue.
Fritts' best event is the 1,600. In her freshman year, she finished fourth at state with a time of 5:03.94. She has led the Kouars to sectional titles, two Northwest Crossroad Titles and a semistate appearance. Fritts also has the school record in a cross country meet with a time of 19:18.
Lewallen said she is on pace to have a breakout year.
"She has been outstanding already," he said.
