Jubril Adekoya rose to the moment of challenge Thursday as No. 9 Andrew thumped Kankakee 56-37 in the final semifinal of the 3A/4A bracket at the 62nd annual Kankakee Tournament.

The 6-6 junior forward scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Thunderbolts (8-0).

“I think he rose to the competition,” Andrew coach Mike O’Halloran said. “We knew No. 22 had a monster game last night with 20 points in one half.”

No. 22 would be Alvin Braddock. The 6-5 senior forward put on a one-man show for Kankakee (3-6) with 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers, 19 rebounds and five blocks.

“He is one of the best players I have seen in our scouting of holiday tournaments,” O’Halloran said.

Glorind Lisha added 11 for Andrew, while Tyler Hook came off the bench to score eight. Mike Bobek had three steals.

Kankakee’s only lead came Lavontae Lee made a layup on the opening possession.

Andrew advances to meet defending tournament champion Milwaukee South in the 8 p.m. final.

“We know them, they beat us by 10 in the opening round last year,” O’Halloran said.
