Kaneland wide receiver Quinn Buschbacher didn’t need an entire senior night, just a senior quarter.

Buschbacher hauled in five passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter and five touchdowns total, and the Knights rolled to a 45-7 home victory Friday night over Yorkville.

“I just thought this is my last game ever at Peterson Field and I wanted to remember it somehow,” Buschbacher said. “Talked to the team and we said we were going to come out and win it.”

Sophomore quarterback Drew David completed his first eight passes — including 7-for-7 in the first quarter — while hitting Buschbacher on strikes of 49, 15 and 17 yards, using a slant-and-go, a bubble screen and a simple out pass to find the end zone.

“We were having a little fun creating some plays there, trying to see what would work,” Buschbacher said. “Some of the creativity actually paid off.”

Two 13-yard touchdowns in the third quarter added to Buschbacher’s career day, finishing with 162 yards receiving.

“He’s a special kid and it was a big night for him,” Kaneland coach Tom Fedderly said. “Couldn’t be prouder of him on senior night having a game like that.”

David finished 14-for-19 for 274 yards, while sophomore kicker Matt Rodriguez nailed a 41-yard field goal in the second quarter and senior defensive back Jacob Razo had two interceptions for Kaneland (7-0, 3-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 East).

Senior Ryan Fuchs scored on a 2-yard quarterback keeper late in the fourth quarter and caught two passes for 46 yards.

Yorkville running back Neil O’Brien rushed for 116 yards on 23 carries, including a 38-yard touchdown run on the Foxes’ first possession of the second half.

The Foxes (4-3, 0-3) have now lost three in a row.

“We just need to compete. Competing is what it’s all about,” Yorkville coach Karl Hoinkes said. “First quarter, their speed hurt us and (Buschbacher) is a great player, so what are you gonna do.”
