Joliet Catholic 10, Providence 2: The Joliet Catholic Academy baseball team is hitting on all cylinders.
And that's bad news for the Hilltoppers' opposition.
JCA won for a seventh straight time on Friday, defeating Providence 10-2 in nonconference play at Gillespie Field.
The Hilltoppers (14-3) scored six first-inning runs. The big hit was Nate Minarich's two-run triple which scored Brian Budzinski and Steve Cservenyak. Budzinski and Cservenyak had singled.
"We're putting up a lot of runs lately," JCA coach Jared Voss said. "We're giving our pitchers some good cushions and they have been throwing the ball well."
Winning pitcher John Ruettiger (4-0) went the distance. The senior left-hander struck out five, allowed five hits and walked none.
"John looked good," Voss said. "He stayed ahead of hitters and threw to spots. This was a great win for us."
Nick Ratajczak had two hits (triple) and two RBI. Cservenyak added two hits (double, two RBI). Mike Nelson had two hits and an RBI.
"We've been swinging the bats very well," Voss said. "That continued again today."
