Jacobs rolls past rival Dundee-Crown

Big plays on offense helped Jacobs cruise past District 300 rival Dundee-Crown 49-0 on Friday night in the regular-season finale in Algonquin.
The Golden Eagles finished in third place in the Fox Valley Valley and will move on to the playoffs for the second consecutive year under coach Bill Mitz.
“We’re 7-2 and happy about it,” Mitz said. “Now we just wait and see who we get. It’s a good position to be in — playing another week.”
The win marks Jacobs’ ninth consecutive win over the Chargers (0-9, 0-6), who have lost 26 straight games, and were held scoreless over the final 15 quarters of the season.
“We’re trying to change the culture and it’s really hard,” said first-year D-C coach Vito Andriola, who spent the previous six seasons as a coordinator at Glenbrook South. “It’s way harder than I ever thought. This is all new to me. (Glenbrook South) and Maine South are playing in front of 11,000 people tonight.”
The Golden Eagles (7-2, 4-2) scored on the first play from scrimmage via a Caz Zyks 55-yard touchdown run and never let up.
Zyks had a banner night, rushing for 181 yards on eight carries, all in the first half. He scored the first three touchdowns of the game, adding touchdown runs of 23 yards and 17 yards, respectively.
“We hoped we could run the ball on them tonight, and there were some pretty big holes for us,” Mitz said.
Jacobs rushed for 208 yards in the first half on just 14 carries. Quarterback Jason Judson also got in on the fun. After watching his receivers drop two of his first three pass attempts, including a would-be 56-yard touchdown, the senior’s first completion of the game was an 85-yard strike to Jake Gierlak to put the Golden Eagles up 28-0 with 4:32 left in the first half.
Judson found Gierlak again on Jacobs’ next possession for a 36-yard touchdown and a 35-0 halftime lead. Judson added his third touchdown pass on Jacobs’ first possession of the second half, a 34-yard pass over the middle to Antonio Dunner. Judson finished 4-of-11 passing for 173 yards.
Sophomore running back Cordero Parson led the Chargers’ offense, rushing for 68 yards on 25 carries. D-C managed just 79 yards of total offense.
“We’ve made some progress, but you look on the sideline and we have 13 guys injured. That’s a team and two subs,” Andriola said. “We have a lot of work to do to see where this program goes.”
