Aurora Christian notched its signature win of the season in a comeback 35-28 victory over Suburban Christian Conference Gold rival Immaculate Conception Friday night.

The lead changed five times in the fourth quarter, including the deciding touchdown – a 36-yard scoring strike from Anthony Maddie to Cory Windle to up the Eagles up 35-28 with eight seconds left. A hook-and-ladder play by the Knights as time expired was snuffed out well short.

After a tough 9-for-18, 124 yard performance through three quarters, Maddie went 12-for-22 for 170 yards and two scores in the fourth quarter alone.

He also rushed for 92 yards and two scores.

It was a performance nearly matched by Knights junior quarterback Demetrius Carr, who was 13-for-26 for 189 yards with a TD and an interception. He also rushed for 72 yards and two scores.

Carr staked the Knights a 14-13 lead after three quarters, and then hit Tim Hipskind on a 65-yard touchdown early in the fourth after Maddie had given the Eagles a 19-14 lead.

Following a Maddie to Windle connection that made it 27-21 Aurora Christian with 6:30 left, Carr marched the Knights 75 yards for another score, a 1-yard plunge by Dan Vatch (67 yards) with 2:38 left that gave the Knights a 28-27 lead.

That led to Maddie’s final march, an 80-yard drive that was elongated after he took a sack back to the 11. After that, the Western Michigan-bound QB went 7-for-13 (including a spike to kill the clock) and accounted for all 89 yards.

Aurora Christian is now 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCC Gold, and in sole possession of first place.=
