Immaculate Conception senior running back Jose Godinez didn't have a carry

until four minutes into the second quarter Saturday in Elmhurst.

That didn't prevent him from having a huge game.

Godinez rushed for 177 yards and scored three touchdowns to help the Knights

stun Walther Lutheran 28-21.

IC overcame a 21-0 deficit in the second quarter to improve to 2-0 on the

season.

"We faced adversity in the first half, but we came back strong," Godinez

said. "We started bulldozing people and it was a good feeling coming back

like we did."

IC rushed for 342 yards behind offensive linemen Kasey Lathrope, Joe Little,

Robert Rivera, James Peachey and Coleon Leverson, but it was Walther

Lutheran that looked good early.

The Broncos (1-1) led 6-0 after one quarter when Tim Gildroy caught a

14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sean Cotton.

Walther made it 14-0 on a five-yard touchdown run by Andre Cooper and two-point

conversion catch by Tyreese Russell (three catches, 104 yards), who later caught

a 24-yard TD pass from Cotton (6-for-13, 122 passing yards; 75 rushing

yards) to put the Broncos ahead 21-0 with 4:18 left in the

opening half.

IC quarterback Cody Kotlow (89 yards on 20 carries) began the comeback when

he raced 53 yards up the middle for a touchdown and the Knights trailed 21-7

at halftime.

Godinez scored on a 44-yard run early in the third quarter to pull the

Knights within 21-14 and added a 23-yard TD run to even the score at 21-21

heading into the final quarter.

Godinez's third touchdown of the game, this time from four yards out, gave the Knights

their first lead at 28-21 and they held on down the stretch.
