Area athletes achieve all-conference honors

The state championship Immaculate Conception football team had senior lineman Matt Purdom and senior linebacker/tight end Antonio Taylor named to the Class 2A All-State Team by the Illinois Football Coaches Association.

Purdom, Taylor, IC seniors Paul Hornstra and Marco Medina and junior Carlos Rodriguez were named to the All-Suburban Catholic Conference Team. Taylor was named the SCC Defensive Player of the Year and Purdom was named SCC Lineman of the Year.

Taylor was named all-conference for the third year in a row.

Members of the All-SCC Academic Team for athletes who posted at least a 3.7 grade-point average during the most recently completed semester were IC seniors Joseph Burke, Joshua Fenton and Matt Purdom and juniors Will Cronin, Stephen Maloney, Nicholas Perrone and Nicholas Stam and Montini Catholic (Lombard) senior Mike Size of Elmhurst and junior John Konopacz, both of Elmhurst.

• York seniors Dan Johnston, Tom Judge, Zach Preuss, Tom Roth and Joe Santiago and junior Erik Westerberg were named to the All-West Suburban Conference Silver Division Team. Judge and Westerberg also earned all-conference honors in 2007.

York's members of the All-WSC Senior Academic Team for seniors with cumulative GPAs of at least 4.0 were Nick Dronen, Frank Giordano, Andrew Johnson, Dale Lewis, Robert Matuszewski, Eric Norquist, Jeff Nowak, Preuss, Roth and Nate Tess.

York seniors Moe Damm, Ali Deatsch, Brianne Graunke and Kayla Mullaney were named to the All-WSC Silver Team. Graunke also was all-conference in 2007.

Damm, Deatsch, Granuke, Mullaney and York's Grace Nelson, Kate Ratliff, Ellen Ribar and Lindsey Whitmer were All-WSC Senior Academic Team members.

• IC seniors Catherine Guido and Danielle Remy were named to the All-SCC Team. Guido is a three-time all-conference recipient.

Remy, senior Mary Cheng, junior Margaret Ryan, sophomores Colleen Manion and Judith Morris and freshman Kellyanne Remy earned All-SCC Academic honors.

• Timothy Christian (Elmhurst) senior Anneke Stremler was named to the All-Private School League Team for the first time after receiving honorable mention in 2007.

• Fenwick (Oak Park) senior Margy Acton of Elmhurst was named to the All-East Suburban Catholic Conference Team for the first time.

York senior Ryan Roberts was named to the All-State Team by the Illinois High School Coaches Association after being honorable mention all-sectional last season.

York senior Anthony Selvaggi was named all-sectional and senior Jim Kroll was honorable mentional all-sectional.

Roberts, Selvaggi, Kroll, York senior Brendan Carney, junior Stefan Salzano and sophomore Dave Selvaggi were named to the All-WSC Silver Team. Roberts also was all-conference last season.

Andrew Barber, Mark Cellini, Riley Cruse, Ryan Gately, Michael Moen, Roberts and Lukas Visser earned All-WSC Senior Academic Team honors.

• Timothy Christian senior Jake Schemper was named all-sectional and Timothy senior Jeb Nash was honorable mentional all-sectional. Schemper had been honorable mention all-sectional for the past two years.

York's members of the All-WSC Senior Academic Team were Peter Bennett, Jack Cooney, Brian Davis, Dan Gonzales, George Havlin, Jordan Hebert, Matt Johnson, Ajay Keeramkery, Jonathon Koch, Jerry Kurian, Lucas Loffredo, Conner Martin, Andrew Mattson, Abrar Mohiuddin, Pat Morgan, Alex Oommen, Ryan Ottenfeld, Brian Pekron, Brian Pfium, Brian Pollastrini, Mike Ross, Sahil Shah, Billy Sheehan, Jon Smaga, Steve Sulkin, Jake Swartz, Dan Thiess, David Way and Jake Williams.

• IC junior Sean Doherty and sophomore Daniel Headley were members of the All-SCC Academic Team.

York's Olivia Arista, Catherine Fetscher, Lauren Gher, Kerstyn Jankovec, Amanda Johnson, Callie Klatt, Khristina Laskowski, Rachel Lawshe, Molly Platt, Shreya Singh and Linea Wernette earned All-WSC Senior Academic Team honors.

• IC senior Megan Barnish and sophomore Natalie D'Agostino and Montini sophomore Therese Koelle of Elmhurst were All-SCC Academic athletes.

York was represented on the All-WSC Senior Academic Team by Brigid Baker, Mia Bogusz, Alex Brinkmeier, Mallory Callahan, Jeni Entwhistle, Mary Eshelman, Molly Field, Abby Heisler, Amanda Hewson, Ashley Hewson, Erin Kinsey, Therese O'Toole, Jessica Onstwedder, Megan Pagel, Patricia Pernal, Margaret Platt, Rachel Polkow, Kerry Poreda, Jessie Rodriguez, Shannon Rohn, Jessica Ronnau, Mary Rudolph, Janet Skukas, Kelly Yamanaka and Amy Zaiter.

York's All-WSC Senior Academic members were Kelly Barry, Julie Chamberlin, Allie Cicinelli, Francesca DeFeo, Michelle DuPrey, Cady Hambry, Stephanie Japczyk, Janine King, Kelly Madden, Brooke Porter and Ellen Stein.

• Montini junior Lara Mangialardi of Elmhurst achieved All-SCC Academic honors.

York's Andy Wethekam was a member of the All-WSC Senior Academic Team.

• IC juniors Patrick Haggerty and Thomas Hart earned All-SCC honors.

Haggert, Hart and IC juniors Christopher Cheng and Shazad Hussain were All-SCC Academic members.

York's Sarah Didominick, Kara Flando, Trisha Goss, Claire Sanders, Samantha Shepley and Marisa Stefani achieved All-WSC Senior Academic honors.

IC junior Katie Krezel, sophomores Deirdre Gillette, Alexandra Hartnett, Tara Hill and Danielle Ramirez and freshman Chloe Koch were members of the All-SCC Academic Team.

IC juniors Celeste Guzman and Nicolette Tindall and sophomore Ashia Johnson (cheerleading) earned All-SCC Academic honors.
