Second half carries Hyde Park

With the conference championship waiting in the wings Friday at Curie, it was all about execution for Hyde Park as they defeated King 63-46 Wednesday on the road in the Red-Central.

King (11-8, 4-3) was able to stay within striking distance for the first two quarters, but it was lights out in the third quarter as the Thunderbirds didn't look like the same team in the second half opening up a 16-1 run and holding the Jaguars without a field goal until 3:29 remaining in the third quarter as they built a 48-24 lead.

Hyde Park (15-3, 7-0) coach Lamont Bryant began to pull his starters early in the fourth quarter but was visibly upset with the play of his bench as he filtered one or two regulars in down the stretch for stability.

Sophomore guard Marsalis Davis led all scorers with 17 points. Treyshawn Jones scored 13, Aqui Shareef had 12 points, Kyle Davis and DeShawn Greer had 10 points a piece.

Kyle Davis added eight assists and Greer had a game-high 15 rebounds.

King was without a double figure scorer with Justin Reynolds had a team high nine points.

"A win is a win" said Bryant. "All I want to do is get better production from my bench. If you are up by 20 you want to go up by 40. You don't want to lose points. That's just bad math."
