Huntley continues dominant run

Huntley coach Kris Grabner doesn’t envy the mental gymnastics other coaches go through trying to come up with a scheme to stop Red Raiders forward Aimee Wronski.
The again, he wouldn’t want to have to figure out a way past his defense either.
Wronski scored twice and had three assists and Huntley’s defense recorded its 10th shutout in 15 games this season in a 5-0 victory Tuesday over host Grayslake North.
“[Wronski] is just a beast,” Grabner said. “She’s so strong and can score with either foot, going any direction she wants.”
Wronski scored her second goal of the game and 21st of the season with 10 minutes remaining in the first half to push the lead to 4-0 for Huntley (13-1-1), which is aiming to reach the state finals for the first time in program history.
“We know this could be a special year for us,” Wronski said. “We’ve got 10 seniors on the team and knowing it’s our last year makes us push that much harder. We started strong at the beginning of the year and we’re only getting better.”
Goalie Kaytlyn Owens (five saves) and her back line of Rachel Chapuis, Sam and Rachel Zobott and Kelly Manczko continue to be stellar – even without standout defender Alyse Williams.
Williams has missed three weeks since injuring her knee, but was cleared by her doctors Tuesday to start practicing this week, Grabner said.
The Red Raiders have only allowed four goals all season.
“People always look at the offense,” Grabner said. “But if you look at our defense over the last five years, we’ve been single digits for goals against the whole season. We’ve got good goalkeeping, good speed in the back and good players that are technically sound.”
Emily Konior, traditionally a defender who Grabner recently installed at forward, also scored twice. Bre Burry added a goal for the Red Raiders.
Brook Sauer made nine saves for Grayslake North (6-8).
