Skanes brothers lift Hubbard

Next week’s Roy Cury Bowl against Robeson may have been in the back of Hubbard’s, mind but they still were focused enough to give visiting Amundsen a major drubbing with a 48-0 victory Thursday afternoon at Gately Stadium.
The Greyhounds wasted little time as they jumped on Amundsen from the opening kick with a 78-yard return from Larry Howard.
Quarterback Quincy Skanes followed up last week’s impressive six-touchdown performance against Orr where he threw for four scores and ran for two more with a near similar day against Amundsen throwing three touchdowns and running for two more.
Skanes hit Ricky Backstrom for 31 yards then connected with Mickhail Dubose for 25 yards and topped his evening off with another touchdown strike to Backstom for 26 yards late in the fourth quarter. His day was completed with with two scoring runs of 17 and 27 yards.
Skanes finished the day 10 of 12 for 267 yards and had six carries for 78 yards. Twin brother Quintin Skanes added a four-yard run to close it out.
Quincy Skanes said he is not concerened his name is not mentioned with other top quarterbacks.
“I have been quarterbacking since I have been in the third grade,” said Skanes. “Its more important for me to put the wins on the board thats what I can control.”
The Hubbard defense was anchored by linebacker Kyjuan Tate, who led the team with 12 tackles and a interception.
Amundsen coach Grant Jones was absent from the game due to illness.
The Greyhound defense limited Amundsen to three first downs for the entire game.
