Hubbard's first half too much for Bogan

Bogan came out against Hubbard with the mindset to show they belong with the big boys. But Hubbard made them rethink their thought process as the No. 23 Greyhounds dished out a 43-6 lesson in the Prairie State conference Thursday night at Gately Stadium.

Hubbard (5-0, 2-0) put 29 points on the board in the first half as they scored on runs of five and one yards from quarterback Quincy Skanes. David Moore scored on a five and a seven-yard run as the half ended.

Hubbard continued in the third quarter as Moore went off tackle for 48 yards with 4:28 remaining in the third quarter.

And Tobias Diggs closed out the scoring with a three yard run in the fourth quarter.

The Bengals (1-4, 1-1) avoided a shutout with 28 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Russell Williams.

"We both know each other; our schools are not far from each other. Once we got our kids to shut their mouths and play football instead of talking, we were able to take control of the game," said Hubbard coach Elton Harris. "This team is really starting to play well, everybody is on the same page, players and coaches. We just have to keep working hard, it's a long season."

All five Hubbard touchdowns were set up off of Bogan turnovers that coach Sam Jones said showed their youth. "Once we got down we began to hang our heads instead of fighting back. This team is very young, but I like the direction that this program is headed."
