Greyhounds sprint past Raby

Banged up after last week's battle with Morgan Park, Hubbard had a handful of starters in street clothes. But after being limited to kick-holding duties in the first half, junior quarterback Quincy Skanes got the offense clicking for the No. 25 Greyhounds, who knocked off Raby 22-0 in a first round Public League playoff game Thursday at Gately Stadium.
"It hurt to sit and watch," Skanes said. "But I feel good now. State is our big goal. The past two year, we lost in the second round and we want to do more."
After halftime, Skanes sparked two third-quarter scoring drives capped by nine and 15-yard runs by Anthony Johnson that put Hubbard (8-1) up 22-0.
"We decided to play Quincy because he said that he felt OK," Hubbard coach Elton Harris said. "We've had players get Prep Bowl rings. The whole thing for them is to get to state."
Raby (4-5), which opened the season with losses to unbeaten Plainfield South and 7-1 Vernon Hills, had enough playoff points for its strength of schedule, but needed a win to qualify for the state playoffs. The Raiders only dressed 22 players and had seven players deemed academically ineligable for the matchup.
Hubbard led 7-0 at halftime after a one-yard scoring run by Larry Gourdine.
