Hinsdale Central overcame a lot of adversity in a 28-0 win over Proviso East

in a West Suburban Conference crossover on Saturday in Maywood.

The Red Devils (1-1) turned the ball over four times against the Pirates

(0-2) and had two touchdowns erased thanks to penalties.

"I don't think we were mentally prepared to play," said Hinsdale Central

senior linebacker Pat Foley, who recovered a fumble and returned an

interception for a touchdown all in the second half.

"We didn't do a very good job taking care of the ball that's for sure,"

Hinsdale Central coach Mike DiMatteo said. "We just did not play well. The

only good thing that happened is we won the game."

The Red Devils, who turned the ball over three times in the first half,

should have been up by more than 14-0 at halftime.

Hinsdale Central had a touchdown in both the first and second quarters wiped

out by penalties.

Hinsdale Central quarterback Alex Hodakowski (four completions, 61 yards) had

touchdown strikes of 20 yards to John Skokna and 27 yards to Ben Cherry in

the first half. Mitch Green added the extra points.

Hodakowski added a rushing touchdown of six yards to put the Red Devils up

21-0 with eight minutes, 46 seconds to play in the third quarter.

The final points came on a 36-yard pass interception return into the end

zone by Foley.

Proviso East senior receiver Terrance West had four catches for 42 yards and

Ryan Jones rushed for 43 yards on nine carries.
