Lyons junior running back Jaime Jones picked the perfect
time to have his best varsity game.
Jones rushed for 101 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead
the Lions to a convincing 34-17 West Suburban Conference Silver Division
victory over rival Hinsdale Central Friday in Western Springs.
LT improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Silver with the victory.
"To beat a quality opponent like Hinsdale Central is obviously something
we're very proud of," LT coach Kurt Weinberg said. "I thought out guys
played very well and I was very impressed with the way we came out in the
second half. Our guys really did a great job of getting at it and getting a
big win against a quality opponent."
LT led 7-0 after one quarter thanks to a 10-yard touchdown run by Jones, but
Hinsdale Central (1-3, 0-2 in Silver) capitalized on two big plays to grab a
short-lived 10-7 advantage.
Raja Shehryar blocked a Lyons punt and Pat Foley picked the ball up and
returned it to Lyons' five-yard line, but the Red Devils had to settle for a
19-yard field goal by Mike Kaesler to trim the deficit to 7-3.
Foley then recovered a fumble on LT's next possession and three plays later
Connor Furlong scored on a two-yard TD run to put the Red Devils ahead 10-7
with 2:49 remaining in the first half.
LT took the lead for good when Chris Klotz caught at 12-yard TD pass from
Brian Kelley (10-for-17 passing, 88 yards) to make the score 14-10 at
halftime.
Kelley (75 rushing yards) stretched the lead to 21-10 with a three-yard
touchdown run with 4:10 left in the third quarter. Jones added eight and two-yard
touchdown runs to make it 34-10.
Furlong closed the game's scoring with a eight-yard TD run, but it wasn't enough
for the Red Devils.
Hinsdale Central quarterback Alex Hodakowski completed 14 of 21 passes for
123 yards, while Tom Garvin caught eight passes for 68 yards.
