Lemont had little trouble remaining undefeated with a 56-6 victory at home against winless Hillcrest Friday night in South Suburban Blue action.
The Indians (7-0, 4-0) led 42-0 at half-time and scored on their first five possessions.
Christos Giatras (five carries, 106 yards) ran 62 yards for a score on the first play from scrimmage to give Lemont a 7-0 lead. Eric Kirkman then ran for a 41-yard score on the third play of the Indians’ second possession.
A 25-yard interception return by Jake Lemming gave Lemont possession at the Hawks’ 1-yard-line. On the next play Mike Anzalone ran into the end zone to give Lemont a 21-0 lead.
Lemming retuned his second interception of the night 12 yards to give the Indians the ball at the Hillcrest 25-yard-line. Six plays later quarterback Zach Brosseau ran two yards for the first of his two TD runs to give Lemont a 28-0 advantage with 5:25 remaining in the first quarter.
“Big plays,” Lemming said of his two interceptions. “We yelled out ‘pressure’ and forced those passes.”
The Indians scored their first four touchdowns in just 11 offensive plays.
“We challenged the kids to come out and hit them hard right from the beginning and try to jump on them,” said Lemont coach Eric Michaelsen.
Mitch Balek ran for 126 yards on nine carries for Lemont, including a pair of 8-yard TD runs.
Hillcrest (0-7, 0-4) scored on a 60-yard by Devonte Brewer (90 yards, nine carries).
Lemont will face T.F. North and Oak Forest in their final two games in an effort to go undefeated in the regular season for the second straight year.
