Sometimes watching Simeon is just plain scary–they can be that good. Hillcrest got an example of that in a 57-29 loss to the Wolverines Sunday in the Public League Shootout at Chicago State.

The game was never in question and Simeon left no doubt in anybody's mind how focused they were jumping out to a 32-14 half time lead. Hillcrest tried to gather themselves at half and cut the lead to 32-22 with 4:14 remaining in the third quarter.

But a 13-0 run that started with a three-point play by Jelani Neely and ended with a left-handed baseline jam by sophomore Kendrick Nunn put the game out of reach at 45-22.

Nunn was the only Wolverine in double figures with 14 points, Neely had eight points, Jabari Parker scored only four points but grabbed nine rebounds and had four assists.

"When you have unselfish players who play within a team concept and are not concerned with individual statistics, this is Simeon basketball right out of the Bob Hambric playbook," Simeon coach Robert Smith said. "When you have the type of players we have there is never any let up. When a person's number is called, we feel confident that he can do the job."

Smith said games like this will get him ready for March.

"We seek out to play the best competition. Hillcrest is a quality team; we just had their number today."

Julius Brown was high man for the Hawks (5-1) with nine points.

"This turned out to be a glorified scrimmage for us," Hillcrest coach Don Houston said. "You live and you learn. All we can do is find a way to get better. "
