Josh Sterns led all scorers with 17 points, as Highland Park defeated Deerfield, 56-39, Friday night in Highland Park. Jake Norcia added 15 points for the Giants (8-6, 3-1), while Ross Chukerman had 12 points and 7 rebounds in the Central Suburban League North contest.

Leading 12-11 midway through the second quarter, Highland Park outscored Deerfield (5-8, 2-2) 22-5 to grab a 34-16 lead in the third quarter. During the run, Norcia had nine points and Sterns had seven, including a three-pointer by each. Deerfield would get no closer than 15 points thereafter.

“We played with a lot of energy, effort and enthusiasm,” Highland Park coach Paul Harris said. “A total team effort.”

Highland Park shot 17-for-34 from the field and only committed seven turnovers, while Deerfield had 16 turnovers and was 14-for-35 from the field. The Warriors were led by Alex Sacks with 11 points and Connor Shields, who came off the bench to score seven points.

“I got opportunities tonight. My teammates found me,” Sterns said. “I have confidence I’m going to knock it down.”
