MUNSTER -- Another chapter in the Munster-Highland rivalry will take place on Saturday as the two will face off to determine a sectional championship.
Highland exploded in the second half to defeat Morton 6-0 to avenge a loss to the Governors earlier this season, and Munster dominated from the start of the game against Gavit winning 7-0 to set up the rival match.
In the first game, Highland and Morton battled back and forth in the first half, trying to establish an offensive attack, but neither was able to find a way to score. There was a lot of action but neither could get a shot on goal -- each team ended the first half with only one official shot.
The second half proved to be all Highland as the Trojans tallied six goals in the half. Joe Stiglitz started the scoring when he drilled one past the keeper for the first goal of the game.
Two minutes later, it was Tariq Suboh sneaking one into the net for the 2-0 lead.
Additional goals by Chris Postulka (two goals), Alvaro Davalos and Callum Mead capped off the scoring for the 6-0 win and the opportunity to play for the sectional title.
"We did not show any desire or intensity in the first half, so I used some choice words to wake them up, and they came out with the fire we have shown in our last four games," Highland coach Mirko Maric said.
In the second game, Munster dominated the game from the beginning, tallying four goals in the first half and three goals in the second.
Munster's scoring came from several players, with senior Krste Ruiz leading the way with three, Anthony Huard with two, Derek Carlson and Eric Frasco with one each.
Precision passing by the Mustangs was the difference in the contest.
Gavit tried valiantly to get some offense going, but was turned away by a tough Munster defense.
"We wanted to come out and play consistently and put forth a good effort, and I feel that we accomplished that moving on to the final on Saturday," Munster coach Jim Prasopoulos said.
Munster will be looking to capture its seventh consecutive sectional title on Saturday, but will be challenged by a very dangerous Highland team.
The two faced off earlier in the season with Munster edging out a 2-1 victory.
