Barrington 'D' confuses Hersey

It has been nine years since Hersey last won three consecutive games to start a season, but Barrington's defense had other ideas.
The Broncos intercepted Hersey quarterback Brad Zaucha three times in the first half, four times overall, and rolled to a 35-14 victory Friday night in Barrington.
Ben LeCompte had the first two interceptions against Zaucha and picked off another pass in the fourth quarter. But the third one in the game proved costly.
Cornerback Dylan Zyzda picked off Zaucha's pass with 1:23 to go in the first half. Zyzda returned the ball near midfield. It took only four plays for Barrington (3-0) to score on Matt LeMire's rollout and two-yard touchdown pass to Peter Cobb, who made a rare appearance on offense from his normal inside linebacker spot.
"The one right before the half hurt the most," first-year Hersey coach Dragan Teonic said. "There was pressure on our quarterback and we didn't handle it. He made the wrong read, which he never makes."
The score put the Broncos ahead 21-0 at halftime. Cobb's first offensive TD of the season was set up by LeMire's 39-yard pass to Zach Dulla on the drive's first play from scrimmage. Cobb had a defensive TD from the season opener when he returned an interception for a TD.
"I used to be a wide receiver," LeCompte said. "They converted me this year (to cornerback). These are the first (interceptions) of my career."
The Broncos are undefeated for the first time to start the season since going 8-0 in 2003. Barrington has already matched last year's three-win season, the team's first losing season under coach Joe Sanchez.
"We've done well enough to get some wins," Sanchez said. "Obviously, our best football is in front of us."
Hersey's no-huddle option offense was limited to 90 total yards in the first half compared to Barrington's 155 yards. Barrington scored its second TD off another Hersey (2-1) turnover. LeCompte's interception led to J.L. Etienne's 42-yard TD run two plays later midway through the first quarter.
Chase Murdock led the Broncos with 111 yards rushing on 19 carries. LeMire threw three TDs for the first time in his career and finished 11 of 20 passing for 157 yards.
Hersey scored twice in a dominant third quarter when the Huskies ran 27 of 30 plays in the quarter. Chris Polinski (24 carries, 124 yards) scored on a two-yard run. Stephen Kuc caught a 25-yard TD pass from Zaucha (5 of 18, 59 yards).
