Hurley does it all for Julian

DaeShaun Hurley showed why his eligibility was such a big deal.
In his second game since being cleared to play by the CPS, Hurley achieved a rare accomplishment by scoring touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving as Julian rolled to a 42-6 victory over Harlan Thursday at Gately Stadium.
“It’s been a huge relief, being back on the field,’’ Hurley said. ‘‘But I always knew that I was right and the transfer was within the guidelines.’’
Hurley’s 64-yard touchdown run and 19-yard scoring pass to DeMarlon Morris staked the Jaguars (4-3, 3-1 Land of Lincoln) to an 18-6 lead at halftime.
Running back Jaquon Carr (13 carries, 54 yards) opened the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run.
Despite not attempting a second-half pass, Hurley completed 8 of 16 passes for 131 yards. Morris caught seven passes for 136 yards.
“Ever since the summer, [Morris and I] spent a lot of time together and we’ve gotten a really good chemistry going,’’ Hurley said. “It’s great to have that weapon out there, somebody who can go up and catch the ball like that.’’
Morris recorded two of the Jaguars’ five interceptions.
“I know that [Hurley] can give me the ball anywhere on the field,’’ Morris said. ‘‘I don’t have to worry about the ball being underthrown or thrown to the wrong area. I know [the ball] is going to be there.’’
Julian turned the game into a route by scoring two defensive touchdowns minutes apart in the third quarter.
Morris returned his second interception 55 yards for a touchdown, and Ladell Fleming returned a fumble 18 yards for the other score.
Hurley punctuated the victory by scoring on a 10-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Steven Reece with 6:04 left in the third quarter.
Harlan running back Curtis Hill (13 carries, 59 yards) scored on a 12-yard run for the Falcons (2-5, 2-2).
