Hubbard prepared for Public League action by playing two games against suburban schools. The preparation paid off as the Greyhounds cruised to a 32-12 victory over Harlan Friday night at Lane.

“They play more physical in the suburbs,” said running back Anthony Johnson (eight carries, 50 yards), whose 1-yard touchdown run put the Greyhounds (2-1) on the board.

The Greyhounds took adavantage of field position jumping out to a 25-0 first half lead. After Johnson’s 1-yard run, quarterback Quincy Skanes (3-for-6, 100 yards, three touchdowns) competed touchdown passes of 45 yards to Ricky Backstrum, 28 yards to Mikhail DuBose, 27 yards to Quinton Skanes.

“We knew the passes would work. Our guys ran good uproots and they were able to beat their men. Our line did a decent job of protecting,” said Quicy Skanes.

The Greyhounds final score came on a 49-yard run by Santino Thomas. Harlan (0-3) scored two consolation touchdowns on 1-yard plunges by Lafonso Alston and Daniel Johnson.
