If Harlan coach Keith Brookshire was looking for some inspiration and motivation for his young team he just got it. Robeson put one on them they will long remember with a 58-0 victory Thursday night at Gately Stadium in a nonconference game.
Devon Sanders showed he will be a force all season, as he scored four touchdowns during the route. Sanders got things going when he pulled in a perfect pass from quarterback Jarvis Wright who hit him in stride for a 57-yard scoring reception. He scored three more times on runs of 8, 8 and 2 yards in the first half. He finished the evening with 18 carries for 127 yards on the ground and added 57 more in the air.
Wright threw his second touchdown pass to Brian Mcqqddim for 21 yards, as he finished up three of seven for 92 yards. The Robeson defense also got into the act on a Marcus Davis blocked punt that he picked up and returned for a score, as well as another fumble recovery by Marcus Taylor for 28 yards and a 14 yard interception for a score by Jemel Coley. Reserve running back Clayton Dora 4-yard run closed out the scoring for the Raiders.
Coach Fabray Collins said there was enough praise to spread around on this one. “It was a good victory for us” said Collins. “The kids came ready to play and did not fool around. We stayed focused and finished strong.” said Collins.
Harlan coach Keith Brookshire said he was not going to get down on his team, but rather use it has a learning experience.
“First of all we are not a 58-0 team. We are a young team with a lot of potential. We have some good pieces and I promise you we will not be the same team later in the season that you saw this early in the season. This was an eye-opening experience that our sophomores and juniors needed to wake them up.” said Brookshire.
The Robeson defense limited Harlan to 23 total yards for the game.
