Morgan Park rolls, Harlan advances

Tuesday's Class 3A regional semifinal between Morgan Park and Julian was over when the Mustangs got off the bus, because Julian's was nearly an hour late.
Jaguars arrived at 5:57 p.m. for a 6 p.m. game and never caught up. The final score, 105-30 in Morgan Park's favor, wasn't as close as the score indicates.
Both Jerome Brown (37 points) and Billy Garrett (31) outscored the Jaguars, with Brown connecting on 11 of 23 three-point attempts. It was 40-7 before Julian scored its second field goal, with 5:12 left in the first half.
And the 75-point margin was achieved with Wayne Blackshear (13 points) playing only the first half. He tweaked his shoulder late in the half and wanted to play, but coach Nick Irvin, eyeing the 58-13 halftime score in the battle of Public League Red-South foes, nixed the notion.
"Let's wait till Friday," Irvin told Blackshear.
Morgan Park (19-5) used its withering defense to hold Julian (8-15) to 26.2 percent shooting.
Harlan 79, Rich Central 62: The Olympians' season ended despite the 20-point showing of guard Nicholas Collins. Rich Central closes at 9-15, while Harlan advances to meet Morgan Park in an all-Public League regional final.
Harlan (13-13) was led by Shaquille Hines (29 points, eight rebounds), with Anthony Knight adding 16 points. Adedeji Ibitayo scored 16 points for the Olympians.
