Simeon continues to dominate

Simeon continued to prove they are the class of the Public League with a 15-0 victory at Harlan Wednesday in the Jackie Robinson South conference.

It didn't take long for the Wolverines to put their stamp on the game as they opened up the first inning with five runs on RBI singles by right fielder Antoine Brown, third baseman Malik Simmons, second baseman Marshaun Taylor, and first baseman Robert Fletcher.

The lead stayed at 5-0 until the top of the sixth inning when Simeon's bats exploded again starting with a solo shot by center fielder Corey Ray.

Simeon put four more runs on the board bringing the lead to 10-0.

Blake Hickman, who was pitched to cautiously all afternoon, was 0-for-1 but drew three walks and scored two runs.

Right-handed sophomore Albert Dunnigan registered five strikeouts, gave up three base on balls and only allowed two hits as Simeon pushed its record to 10-1.

"We just hope to get better with each game," said Simeon coach Leroy Franklin. "We are a young team, they are hungry, and they want to win."

Senior right-hander Cornell Brown struggled with his control as he gave up nine walks and eight hits for Harlan.

Harlan coach Kenny Fullman said the team got caught short handed. "We had to play five games in five days due to make-ups. They are very good team that can swing the bat and you can't help them out with nine walks. Walks are like errors and a team like that will capitalize."

Hickman said he enjoyed the challenge of knowing everybody gets up to play Simeon. "We just play hard, we don't take plays off. We want to leave the field knowing we gave it everything we had. It's takes a total team effort for us to be successful."
