Hammond -- Morton continued to dominate the Hammond City Track and Field Championships, as the Governors won both the girls and boys meets with a total of 75 team points. Bishop Noll placed second in both divisions, while Clark finished third in the boys division and Gavit took third place for the girls.

Junior Jen Sanford played a major role in the Governors claiming another city title, as she placed first in the mile run (6:17.48) and was part of the six lap relay (2:05.10) and one mile relay (4:57.84).

"This is the fifth time in a row we have won this," said the junior. "I ended the season great last year and I'm starting this season great. Expect big things from me this year."

The Governors got a huge lift from LaRay Williams, as the senior claimed his second straight Hammond City shot put title (45-11 ?).

"I was really focusing on my throws today, but the success just came with it and it feels great to come out here and win," said Williams.

Tiara Reed had an equally impressive day for Hammond with two first-place finishes in the 60-yard dash (7.38) and 220-yard dash (29.56).

"I really felt I could have done better in the 220, my start was kind of slow, but I think I did pretty well today," said Reed.

Bishop Noll's Colin Schreiber also had a huge day with wins in the 60-yard high hurdles (7.85) and the 440 (56.93), while teammate Ian O'Boyle also claimed two first places in the mile run (5:04.73) and in the 880 (2:10.30).

The Warriors' Shanae Williams claimed the girls high jump title (4-8) and Hammond's Tatiana Jones took home the long jump (14-3) for the Wildcats. Governors' Quentin Cole placed first in the long jump (18-1), while the Wildcats' Antwon McGee snagged the high jump title (5-8).

The Warriors' Patrick McCarthy dominated the 2-mile run (11:22.08) for the boys title and Jessica Alfaro won the girls 2-mile run (14:41.56) for Clark.
