Grayslake Central gave coach Steve Ikenn a win on his birthday.
And the Rams also made it back-to-back unbeaten Fox Valley Conference Fox Division seasons with Tuesday’s methodical 47-38 win over rival Grayslake North.
The Rams have now won 25 straight division games and will take 23-4 mark into Thursday’s inaugural Fox Valley Conference Championship Game against FVC Valley Division champ Cary-Grove.
Grayslake North (19-8) will try for its 20th win on Friday against Dundee-Crown.
Skyler Jessop is the only Grayslake Central girl to start on both division-championship teams. And she knows the team must get better to match last year’s sectional championship.
“We’re definitely not where we want to be,” she said. “We still have a lot of work to do. There are times when we’re freaking out and turning the ball over.
“Hopefully, we can get it figured out before the playoffs next week.”
Against North, Jessop had a game-high 14 points. Claire Brennan added 10. Morgan Dahlstrom had eight points and nine rebounds.
For North, Kendall Detweiler and Allie Ceglarek each had nine.
Central led 17-6, 29-21 and 36-25 at the quarter breaks. It was 31-25 in the third period, and then North went 8:38 without scoring. By then, it was 44-25 and over.
“Central’s such a quality team and so solid at what they do that you can’t afford to dig yourself a hole,” said North coach Jim Sarver.
“I was really proud of my kids. This was the kind of atmosphere you love to play in, with the big crowd.”
