Grayslake Central 47, Round Lake 6

Visiting Grayslake Central opened its season in impressive fashion, routing Round Lake 47-6 in a non-conference game.

The Rams scored early and often, led 34-0 at halftime, and kicked the game into running-clock mode when Joel Valdivia caught a 61-yard TD pass from Ray Beckman that made it 40-0.

The Rams led 14-0 after 12 minutes, tallying on TDs by Valdivia on runs of 21 and two yards.

In the second period, Grayslake scored three more times.

Valdivia tallied on a 34-yard pass from Beckman, and Vince Smith caught TD passes from Beckman from eight and 36 yards out.

Beckman finished his night completing 7-of-10 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns.

Valdivia carried six times for 45 yards and caught three passes for another 149 yards.

Meanwhile, Grayslake Central’s defense was dominant. In the first half, Round Lake was able to gain 109 yards, but didn’t cross midfield.

It was a tough opener for the Panthers, as a big home crowd showed up on a perfect evening for football.

What they saw was a Grayslake Central team that clearly is good enough to qualify for postseason play for the second straight year.

Round Lake got its touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 44-yard run by quarterback Anthony Burton.

Just before that Panther TD, Grayslake Central finished its scoring on a three-yard run by Ryan Dones.
