Boys Basketball: Grant impressive in win over rival Antioch

Alan Lewis and Jared Helmich each scored 14 points and host Grant dominated from the get-go as the Bulldogs rolled past longtime rival Antioch 59-35 on Friday in a North Suburban Conference Prairie Division game.

Grant (5-4 overall, 2-1 in the division) led 17-6 after one quarter and 30-17 at halftime. Antioch is 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the division.

Ilya Kadushin added 13 points for the winners. Grant played without four-year varsity player Jerry Gaylor, who was in the stands cheering on the team to victory. He is no longer on the squad.

Antioch was led by Anthony Formella with 14 points.

“It’s the best we’ve looked as a team in quite a while,” said Grant coach Wayne Bosworth. “I’m so proud of the way we played together. Hopefully, we use this as a stepping stone and move on.”

Grant is hosting a holiday tournament that will start after Christmas. Antioch will play Thursday against the home team in Round 1 of the Marengo holiday classic.

For the game, Grant was 26-of-46 shooting while Antioch was 12 of 47.

Helmich added 10 rebounds for Grant.
