For 1 1/2 quarters, Gordon Tech couldn't get out of its own way en route to a 64-43 Class 3A regional semifinal win over Lake View Wednesday night at the old Weber gym.
The Rams held a 12-11 lead in the second quarter, but used a 13-3 run to close the half with a 25-14 lead.
"We were a little nervous tonight, because this was our first post-season game," said Gordon guard David Andrews, who led all scorers with 19 points.
Gordon Tech (10-14) will attempt to win its third straight regional final Friday night when it meets North Chicago.
Lake View (9-10) was led by Yoshee Vicencio with 11 points. Vincencio nailed consecutive threes to pull the Wildcats to within 29-20.
But the Rams nailed the game down with a 10-0 run fueled by Andrews, who scored eight.
Brandon Johnson scored nine of his 12 points in the third quarter for Gordon as the Rams led 50-30 after three quarters.
Johnson, a senior transfer from De La Salle, admitted to suffering from a case of nervousness.
"This is my first time in a playoff game, " Johnson said. "Coaches told me to calm down and play my game."
Andrews is looking forward to Friday night's game against North Chicago. "I'm not worried about their athleticism," he said. "We've played athletic teams all season. To me it's just a matter of playing good defense.
