Glenbrook South takes down rival North

Updated: September 8, 2011 9:13PM

A powerful front row guided Glenbrook South to its first conference win of the season.

The Titans (5-5, 1-0 CSL) defeated Glenbrook North (4-5, 0-1 CSL) 25-18, 25-17 in both teams’ first Central Suburban League match of the season.

“I think we came out much more ready to play tonight,” said GBS head coach Katie Hoover. “We love playing in our home gym. I think there’s a certain energy here and I think that really contributed to front and back row success.”

Glenbrook South had both games in hand from the start as it took 4-3 and 2-1 leads and never lost them.

The Spartans made late pushes in each game, but the Titans held strong and closed them out.

Junior outside hitter Rebecca Tiedmann led Glenbrook South with seven kills and added three digs.

“I think it was a great game especially since we were playing [Glenbrook] North,” said Tiedmann. “Our energy at the beginning of the game was just so high and that definitely carried us through.”

Senior outside hitter was right behind Tiedmann on the attack with six kills and also had an ace.

For Glenbrook North, sophomore outside hitter Kate Kamin led the attack with five kills, senior libero added eight digs and senior setters Abby Shamis and Madeline Pekala grabbed seven assists each.

The Spartans will be competing in the Vernon Hills Invitational this Saturday and the Titans will be at the Lyons quad on Friday.
