Boys Basketball: Schaumburg shuts down Glenbrook South
Schaumburg used a lockdown defense and a well-disciplined offense to beat Glenbrook South 55-34 Tuesday in Glenview.
“We came out with a lot of intensity and we executed our offense,” said Schaumburg forward Christian Spandiary. “We got our stops on defense, too ... and that was a key to the whole game.”
Schaumburg (16-5) did not allow the Titans (5-15) easy access to the lane.
“We pride ourselves on defense,” Spandiary said. “We always play step-up drills and we always have defensive drills in practice so we just have to execute that.”
The Saxons sprinted out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter on the shoulders of Spandiary, who led the team with 11 points before the half.
The Saxons led 29-14 at halftime.
Schaumburg junior forward Kevin Curnow his team’s final 12 points.
“He’s a great player,” said Spandiary. “In practice, he always gives us a good look and he’s just a great overall player.”
Junior guard Kyle Bolger finished up with 11 points and two steals and junior center Jimmy Lundquist ended with eight points and two blocks.
Junior guard Justin Busiel led Glenbrook South with eight points.
